Rendering hair is similar to rendering any other object in Softimage. You can use all standard lighting techniques (including final gathering and global illumination), set shadows, apply motion blur, and do field rendering.
While you can use any type of Softimage shader on hair, there are two special hair shaders that give you the most control and options for making hair look the way you want. With them, you can control the tip and root colors, the transparency, and the way the illumination values are mixed, as well as setting render optimizations.
