The latest service pack (http://autodesk.com/softimage2011-sp1) for Autodesk® Softimage® 2011 software includes 130 fixes.
Here is a summary of the fixes available in Autodesk Softimage 2011 SP1:


Coexistence
Softimage 2011 SP1 is a full build and can co-exist with Softimage 2011. Softimage 2011 is not required to be uninstalled first.


Licensing
Softimage 2011 SP1 uses the same license as Softimage 2011. When installing Softimage 2011 SP1:

  • Enter the product key 590C1 and your Softimage 2011 serial number, and then click Next.
  • If you have a Network license, click Configure to switch to the Network licensing method.


Microsoft hotfix for Customer Error Reporting (CER)
You are running Softimage 2011 SP1 on 64-bit Windows Vista SP2 or 64-bit Windows 7, and you want to send CER reports with a full call stack. See Microsoft hotfix for Customer Error Reporting (CER) (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/getdoc?id=TS15173561).


Crosswalk 5.1
Softimage 2011 SP1 ships with Crosswalk v.5.1. In addition to bug fixes, there is now an option to specify whether or not to include hard edges when importing FBX files. In particular, this can be used to avoid the problem of faceted meshes when importing older FBX assets.


Caching

  • You can now cache ICE and rigid body simulations without needing to play through each frame with the All playback option on. For example, you can jump to any frame of the simulation (such as the last frame), and the simulation is cached from its first frame up to this frame.
  • When you select an object in the Objects list on the Write tab of the Cache Manager, its attributes are now highlighted in the Attributes area. This is useful when you have a combination of different object types to cache, such as a point cloud and a polygon mesh, and you need to see which attributes are being cached for which object. For more information, see Writing Animation or Simulation Data to Cache Files (http://softimage.wiki.softimage.com/xsidocs/sim_cache_PlottingSimulationorAnimationDataintoCacheFiles.htm).
  • You can now branch-select a parent object to add it and its children in one click to the Objects list on the Write tab of the Cache Manager.
  • When you cache an ICE simulation from the Simulation Time Control ppg and select Save Cache to Mixer, an unused action source is no longer created, but a cache file source is. For more information, see Caching ICE or Rigid Body Simulations (http://softimage.wiki.softimage.com/xsidocs/rigidbody_CachingtheRigidBodySimulation.htm).
  • Cache clips and tracks in the animation mixer are now a lovely orange color instead of being sand-colored. This makes it easier to distinguish them from audio clips and tracks, which are sand-colored.

Updated Character Data
The character key sets and keyable parameters for these models in the Get > Primitive > Character menu have been fixed:

  • XSI_Man_Armored


Rigid Bodies Limit Increase
The maximum number of active rigid bodies (PhysX dynamics engine) that you can have in a simulation environment has been increased from 30,000 to 60,000. This affects both ICE rigid bodies, as well as standard rigid bodies.


ICE Rigid Bodies
The AngularVelocity attribute (used by the Simulate Rigid Bodies node) is no longer clamped at +/– pi radians per second.


ICE Kinematics Workgroup Compounds
There have been some fixes for the compounds in the ICE Kinematics workgroup:

  • Basic Collide Geometry has been fixed, and renamed to Basic Collide Global.
  • Raycast Geometry has been fixed, and renamed to Raycast Global.
  • Foot Ground Pivot has been fixed.
  • Foot Ground Pivot Multi Raycast has been fixed.

In addition, a new sample scene Kinematics_Foot_Pivot.scn has been added to the Scenes\ICE subfolder of the XSI_SAMPLES project to show the usage of these compounds.


OpenAL Audio Support for Linux
OpenAL (Advanced Linux) audio is now supported for Softimage on Linux. If OpenAL is detected in the .xsi_2011 file, the XSI_AUDIO_MODE environment variable is automatically set to use OpenAL. You can also specify OpenAL directly with this environment variable. This layer can contain many different audio back ends. Specifying only “OpenAL” will use the preferred audio device. To force a certain audio back end, append the device name like this:

Note: The OpenAL layer only supports the PCM functions. Any MIXER function calls are re-routed to ALSA.


RTShaderWizard
The RTShaderWizard and the template that it produces have been improved:

  • The shader Type parameter has been renamed to Name.
  • You can specify a Color4 variable type for RGBA values. The previously available Color data type has been renamed to Color3.
  • You can specify texture3d and textureCUBE variable types. The previously available Texture data type has been renamed to texture2d.
  • You can specify all TEXCOORD0 – TEXCOORD7 buffers for the vertex shader’s input and output data.
  • WorldViewProjection has been added to the default matrix declarations.
  • The Semantic Parameters and Matrices Type list boxes are now sorted.


mental ray Renderer Version
The version of the mental ray renderer has been updated to si2011_3_8_1_31.

Softimage 2011 SP1 includes full English and Japanese documentation.
