Link with to an object that is buried in the explorer

Summary
You could only set up a relationship by navigating the popup explorer window and finding the object to link with, which is probably somewhere deep in the heirarchy. There is however a simple workaround.
Steps
Add the object that you want to link with to a group, that way it's easily accessible. Then you may remove the group.
