License Error 101
[edit]
Message:
| The license manager is unable to detect the USB dongle. Please ensure that the dongle is correctly installed before proceeding. If you are not using a dongle, change the Server Type to SLP by choosing Server > Change Server Type to SLP in the license manager. |
[edit]
Symptoms:
Error 101 means that the license manager can't communicate with the dongle. You may get this error when generating a request code, starting the license server, or installing a new license.
This error can only occur when a license server is using a dongle (Server Type=SI0). If you are not using a dongle, make sure that your license server is set to the SLP Server Type where the licenses are assigned to the computer itself, instead of a dongle.
If you are using a dongle, you may get an Error 101 for these possible reasons:
- The dongle was never connected or not connected properly into a USB port on your computer.
- Windows did not recognize the dongle when connected and/or the driver for the dongle was not properly installed.
- Your computer entered power save or hibernation mode, and as a result the operating system shut off power to the USB ports which breaks the connection to the dongle.
- The dongle has failed and is now defective.
[edit]
Resolution:
- Removing and re-inserting the dongle corrects most problems. You can also try connecting the dongle in a different port, or rebooting the computer.
- Check whether Windows recognized the dongle. Open the Device Manager and look for SPM Devices. If the device is recognized, you will see a device entry called SPM Device, USB iButton holder for SPM.
- If you recently installed a USB hub or component, or made significant modifications to your computer: try reverting those changes.
- Please consult the Advanced Dongle Troubleshooting page for more suggestions.
