You should install the BatchServe client on all of the computers that you want to participate in rendering jobs submitted to the BatchServe server.
Before You Start
Before installing the BatchServe client, make sure that each client machine has the following:
- Win32 Operating System (Windows 2000, Windows XP) - The BatchServe client runs only on Win32 operating systems.
- MySQL ODBC Driver - Download and install the latest stable version of the 2.5.x series on each client machine. You can get instructions on how to install MyODBC from the MySQL website.
- XSI v2.0 or Later - Each client machine needs a full install.
- “ . ” as a Decimal Separator - For a client machine to render properly, its decimal separator must be set to “ . ” (period). If you are using a different decimal separator, please change it to “ . ” in the Windows Regional Settings.
Also, make sure that you are logged into the client machine as an administrator. You must have administrative privileges to properly install the BatchServe client.
Client Installation
- Run the Client Setup program (setup.exe).
- Accept the End User License Agreement (EULA).
- Choose a destination folder for the BatchServe client files.
- Choose the Softimage Products programs folder.
- When you are prompted for “service login information” make sure you enter information for a user who meets the following criteria:
- The user has read/write access to the directory where your XSI projects are stored.
- The user has read/write access to the directory where rendered images are stored.
| Ideally, the BatchServe client should run as a user with admin or Super User privileges. |
- If you have multiple versions of XSI installed, you will be prompted to select a version to use with BatchServe.
- In the BatchServe server dialog box, enter the hostname of your BatchServe server and click OK.
- When prompted, change the BatchServe port number if necessary. It is recommended that you leave the port number as is unless there is a port conflict.
- Review your settings and click Next to start copying files.
- Click Finish.
- Launch the XSI BatchServe Control tray icon program (XSIbServClientUI.exe).
To have the program launched automatically when a user logs in, create a shortcut for the tray icon program in the Windows Startup menu.
You are now ready to start the BatchServe service. Double-click the tray icon (which appears as an XSI logo) to start the service. This registers your client with the BatchServe server. When the service is not running, the logo is red.
