INFO: Vista and the License Manager
Applies to: XSI 6.5 and earlier.
On Vista, you must run the License Manager as an Administrator.
- Click Start > All Programs > Softimage Products.
- Right-click License Manager and click Properties.
- Click the Compatibility tab.
- Under Privilege Level, select the Run the program as an administrator check box.
- Click OK.
Now when you run the License Manager, you will be able to start and stop the license server.
If you do not run the License Manager as Administrator, then you will have one or more of the following problems:
- Both Start Server and Stop Server are disabled.
- On the Service menu, Install License Server Service is disabled.
- Wrong System ID error when you try to install your permanent license.
- Cannot contact service manager error when you try to activate your permanent license.
There are two underlying problems:
- The License Manager generates a different system ID depending on whether or not you run as Administrator.
- If you do not run as Administrator, the License Manager does not have to required permissions to install the license server service (the license server is a Windows service).
