Apply Actions that are Instanced action Clips back to the object
Summary
Let’s say you have created an action source and then created (instantiated) numerous action clips from it in the mixer. You have modified each of these clips in different ways, such as adding clip effects, timewarps, etc. Now you want to apply the animation from the modified clips back to the model. How do you do it?
Steps
Because applying an action works only on sources, you can’t use it on clips, which are simply instances of a source. You can get around this by either freezing or merging the instanced clips to a new source, depending on how you’ve modified the clips.
- If you’ve done clip mixing, retiming, clip effects, or timewarps on the clips, you need to freeze all the clips’ modifications into a new source. In the animation mixer, select the clips that you have modified and choose Clip > Freeze to New Source.
- If you’ve retimed (such as scaled) or sequenced fcurve-only clips, then you can merge the clips which keeps the key timing in the original sources. In the animation mixer, select the clips that you have modified and choose Clip > Merge to New Source.
Now you can apply the new source to the model by selecting it in the explorer and choosing Actions > Apply > Action from the Animate toolbar.
