Animating group visibility
Article needs peer review
Symptom
You may notice that it is not possible to animate the visibility parameters of a group. The animation may appear to work while the group visibility property page is open, but when the page is closed the animation disappears.
Cause
When a group is created a set of visibility parameters are given to the group which act as an override for the visibility parameters of each object within the group. Overrides are not currently animatable so if you try to animate the default group visibility parameters the animation will not work as expected.
Solution
In order to animate the visibility parameters of the group you need to give the group normal visibility. To do this you need to select the group and type the following entry into the Command Box in the bottom left hand corner of the Softimage|XSI interface:
AddProp "Visibility"
This will create a standard Visibility property page for the group which can be animated in the normal way.
An alternative way to create this property page is to select a Visibility property page from another object, use Ctrl+C to copy it, then select the Group and use Ctrl+V to paste it into the group. This will also create a Visibility property page which can be animated in the normal way.
